- Research the firm before your interview
- Speak clearly and at a moderate pace
- Show enthusiasm for the position
- Pause briefly before answering to collect thoughts
- Apply coaching feedback as you go
DON'T:
- Give vague or generic answers
- Ramble - aim for 1-2 minutes per answer
- Speak too fast when nervous
- Badmouth previous employers or professors
- Say "I don't know" without trying to answer
- Use excessive filler words (um, like, you know)
- Forget to ask questions at the end
The STAR Method for Behavioral Questions
For questions like "Tell me about a time when..." use this structure:
Set the context. Where were you? What was happening?
What was your responsibility? What needed to be done?
What specific steps did YOU take? (Focus on your actions)
What was the outcome? What did you learn? Quantify if possible.
